I saw the Law and Order episode last night. The episode was about a breastfed
baby that starved to death. No one spoke of what to look for in a thriving
breastfed baby (diapers, etc.). No one asked where the hospital discharge
papers were on the breastfeeding plans for that newborn.

The breastfeeding "counselor" on the stand made some good points but never
clarified when it might be appropriate for the mother to pump or use formula.
She never stated how often a newborn should be fed. The lawyer (not the
mother's) kept freaking out that she never used the formula that the hospital
provided. Are there really hospitals that make a mom sign a contract saying
one cannot use formula? This was the case in this television show. The
parents were young.

There were many items that were unclear during this episode.
How sad that this is what many pregnant or new mothers will see....

Now I have to go file my recertification papers to IBCLC and get off the
internet!!!
