Question for those of you with experience in the area of medications and
breastfeeding moms. We had a call from mom wondering if self-tanning
lotions (instant tan) could harm her baby. My colleague who took the call
looked through all our available books with no answer. She of course said,
"Avoid use on breasts!"

I am sorry I don't have ingredients of product this woman wishes to use. I
have used one myself called SUN that contains: water, aloe vera gel, soybean
oil, dihydroxy acetone, glyceryl stearate, peg-100 stearate, cetyl alcohol,
glycerin, polysorbate-80 & acetylated lanolin alcohol & cetyl acetate,
dimethicone, PVP, citric acid, methyl paraben, propyl paraben, fragrance (CA
Sun Laboratories, Inc.) What a mouthful.
I can't say which ingredient(s) causes color change. My in-house chemist is
out-of-town and our perinatal PharmD is on vacation.

Perhaps Drs. Hale or Newman can shed some light on this mystery.

Thanks,
Martha Pitzer
