I have been learning so much from you all, this is my first time posting. I have
permission from mom to post.

I am working with a mom who is planning on adopting a baby from Vietnam.
The process is coming along smoothly and they hope to bring home their baby
in April when he will be 11 months old. Mom wants to induce lactation, and is
following a protocol for inducing lactation including hormonal birth control and
Reglan. She has completed the birth control pills, is continuing on Reglan and
began pumping today. I think we have the whole milk production thing
covered. The big question is when they bring the baby home, getting this 11
month old to nurse.

She is wondering if there are any ideas to make the transition more smoothly.
What botles are best? Should she just try to transition to a cup while trying
to introduce the breast, or would that be too much change? She thinks he
currently is being fed with a fast flow nipple, should they transition to a slower
flow nipple? If he is used to a bottle, might she have better luck with a nipple
shield?

She would really like to get him nursing, but realizes the challenges with an
older baby. She is hopeful that at the very least she can get some milk stored
that she can give him.

She is located in South Dakota, and would love to be able to talk to someone
who has done this before with an older baby.

Any suggestions that I can pass on to her would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help in advance.
