I thought I would clarify some thoughts I've had about
this.... I think there is a big difference between
tacking on those initials following a name (DO, PhD,
EdD, MD, IBCLC, etc.) and insisting on being called
the "title" associated with it. No matter what
degrees I get in life, I will probably always be
"Kate". That's who I am and what I answer to- in
fact, years later, I'm always astounded that I
responded to "Ms Hallberg" during the surgery by my
surgeon who addressed me as that, and I addressed him
as "Dr. Rutherford".

My dh has a PhD that is 10 years old, and rarely is
called "Dr.". When he does, he thinks someone is
talking to his dad, who has a PhD from the era during
which such things were more common.

Yes, indeed, I do like to see those initials in a sig
line as it gives an idea of ones training, but I'm not
going to start addressing Jack as Dr. Newman or Rob as
Dr. Cordes. Sometimes the same information is given
by a link to a personal/professional website. I
occasionally get email generated my websites addressed
to some form of "Title" "Hallberg", and I wonder why.
