I had a couple who said that they were going to use "parent directed
feeding". I explained how demand/supply works, and that milk out equals milk
produced, while milk that stays in the breast signals the body to make less.
Then I looked them straight in the eye and said that if they were going to
have the parents direct the feedings of a newborn, that they would likely
starve their baby. They were much more receptive to "my" way after that
conversation (altho I do not know what happened after they went home).
