June,
You've already done one of the most effective tricks - get mom hand
expressing colostrum into a teaspoon and feeding the baby often. Skin
to skin contact is also good for perking up interest in a sleepy baby,
and wedging the breast (Diane Wiessinger's "nipple sandwich" idea) can
help the baby get more breast in his mouth.

We need a clinical techniques textbook, don't we? We have good theory
texts, but some of our best tricks are not in the books yet. The
Breastfeeding Atlas does have a lot of clinical techniques in the second
edition (I have no financial interest in the book, just a deep affection
and respect for both Barbara and Kay).
