Hello Alice,

Thank you for sharing that story. Of the mothers with hypoplasia/IGT I've
worked with, a significant number had eating disorders during
adolescence/puberty.  Something I'd like to study more closely (and others
are interested in, as well) is the effect of calorie restriction on
specific hormones that we already know are linked to mammary gland
development during puberty -- progesterone is a big one.  It makes logical
sense that the body shuts down reproductive function during periods of
severe calorie restriction ... perhaps this will be another point to chalk
up in favor of considering breastfeeding a reproductive function.
