Hello all,

Small intro, I recently contracted with a local hospital to provide
lactation services. I had and still have a private practice. Just finished
week three. I decided to look at the booklets that the doctors hand out to
all of their patients prior to discharge. Was curious as to what the
booklets said regarding breastfeeding. I gathered one from each group of
doctors. Went to my office to read them, it was slow on the unit. I was
sickened to read the info in these booklets. One booklet updated 3/99 told
moms to rinse each nipple before and after every feeding with sterile water,
and once a day WASH the nipples with SOAP and water. The booklet contained
info on a pump that you could use if you weren't going to be around the
baby. Guess which pump was mentioned? The ABM company's pump. I'm sorry
for yelling but it really bothered me. The majority of these booklet were
printed curitosy of an ABM company.

The wording/phases in all of the booklets is very similar if not exact.
Many words the same. It was like the ABM company provided all the info
either by disk, form or something and asked the doctors to fill in the
blanks. My question and reason for the post. Do the ABM companies provide
this written info to the doctors, and then let them customize prior to
getting it printed? Have any of you looked at or encountered these types of
booklets. All of these booklets have the doctors name, address, hours, and
a map on the back cover to the office. I thought maybe the doctors on the
list could tell what these ABM companies provide when marketing.

Thanks,
