The AMA has guidelines published about pharmaceutical reps and gifts, and
the last guideline states that there must be no strings attached to any gift
or professional assistance that is given. The same should be true with
formula reps.

Two years ago, a formula company sponsored a large regional perinatal
conference where my daughter and I presented the discussion on breast
feeding. We had a series of "Did you Know" handouts with pertinent,
REFERENCED, information. They disappeared into thin air.
One of the secretaries said she saw a man pick them up and assumed that he
was bringing them to us. I told my daughter I thought we would find them in
the garbage, and I was right. The whole stack was in the garbage can.
When confronted with the evidence and the witness, the rep confessed and
said that he didn't appreciate that kind of information being circulated
when they were footing the bill.
No strings?
That, too, is contradictory to the AMA guidelines.
