I'm databasing the LLLI CBI collection of BF research articles here in South Jersey. I'm the key word person, but I find myself reading the articles alot! Some make me angry, (length of time or some other such criteria that is awfully short or # of babies that is small etc). Some make me laugh, they are so biased. We have over 10,000 articles in now, slightly over 1/2 of the LLLI collection. It is so interesting to see how so many things have evolved since the 60's.

The one I found today is neat from AJDC Vol 140, pp. 933-935. Sept 1986, It is a study of volume in first 5 days.
The average intake in first 48 hours was low, then increased rapidly up to 96 hours with smaller increases after. All 11 mothers went on to BF exclusively for 5 mo, minimum. The volume on day one was 37g +/- 43 g, average # of feeds was 7-9. There were wide variations in individual intakes. All I could think of was making those bottle babies chug down much more than they needed or wanted.
