Thanks for the one and only reply to my query on my Hep C mum, hopefully
I'll get some more in the next few days. Just thought I would let you
know that I have spoken with a dentist and he had discouraged
breastfeeding once teething commences in view of the risk of the
integrity of the oral mucosa being altered and the risk of the virus
being transmitted, increased. I have also managed to get a leaflet put
out by a hospital, that is specifically about Breastfeeding with Hep. C
and there is a reference to teething in this. It states: 'Once baby
begins teething the risk of damage to your nipples is much higher. Also
baby's gums may be cracked or bleeding which may increase the risk of
picking up the virus from the milk.' There are institutions listed on
the back as references so I will give them a call tomorrow and follow
this up in more depth.
