So, here's a puzzler for you all.

One of my group moms has called me about this and gave me permission
to post to the list. A 4 year old female has started "bleeding"
(menstruating) from her uterus (maybe) last night (10/31) and has
continued through the day. This little girl breastfeeds 10-30 sec/
once in the evening and once in the morning. She was seen by her
pediatrician today. A clean catch urine. No evidence of abrasions.
May have a small labial adhesion.

Her mom does attachment parenting and is essentially a single parent
(till Dad's tour of duty is over). She has a 15.5 month old brother
who is the primary breastfeeder. Mom hasn't menstruated yet, but,
has been feeling very pre-menstrual.

So, of course, the pediatrician is thinking that the cause of this is
hormones in the breastmilk. They will be seeing an endocrinologist
tomorrow. Meanwhile the pediatrician asked her to ask us (La Leche
League Leaders) if we had heard of this before. So, I thought I ask
alot of people with lots of different experiences - What do you all
think? Is this a possible reason? Or is breastfeeding being
sacrificed on the altar of ignorance?

Please reply to me as well as the list.

Thanks!
