Did anyone else hear that the chicken pox vaccine is not working? I heard it
on the news last night and it caught my eye because the vaccine was first
offered in 1995 when my daughter turned 1 year old. I visited my niece at the
time whom upon arrival we were told was coming down with chicken pox. I decided
to stay, and since I was breastfeeding, figured if my daughter was exposed,
it would possibly be a mild case. As it turned out, my daughter had the
chicken pox, she nursed throughout, and I happily reported to her pediatrician when
I brought her in for her 1 year physical and was told about getting the "new"
chicken pox vaccine, that I'd already taken care of it! I told the
pediatrician that I didn't choose to have my daughter be one of the guinea pigs that we
find out the vaccine doesn't last as presumed and so now when these babies are
in their childbearing years, that they'll be coming down with chicken pox
while pregnant. So, it caught my attention last night when they reported that
the vaccines are not lasting more than 1-2 years, and there's been some
occurrences of the pox. (Not meaning to be insensitive of any babies/toddlers
impacted by these findings.)
