From a study on a modest convenience sample of one (myself): sucked thumb
for 15 years, reported by mother to have had callus on thumb at birth.  Was
BF for 9 months, don't know if biting was involved in decision to wean.
Reportedly unable to have 1st birthday party due to intractable habit of
biting other children - would stand in wait at bottom of playground slide
and ambush others with intent to bite, in that moment of confusion just
after landing.  Stopped biting before starting school, exact date not
recorded in study log but it preceded weaning from the thumb by at least 10
years.

The main reason I never sucked my thumb at school was probably that I only
used my left one, and I am left-handed.  :-)
