Well, although I do think that formula is not "nutritionally complete"
like breastmilk is, I think unfortunately the simple answer here is
that no one can survive on a simple multivitamin pill per day, whereas
many babies do survive (and "seem to do ok") on formula every day/year.

Perhaps a better analogy would be total adult nutrition in a can (ie
Ensure, Boost, etc.).  My grandmother survived off this after palate
cancer for almost 10 years.  She lost weight, but she survived and for
a 77-87 yr old woman, already going downhill anyhow, seemed to do
"ok".  BUt I would be the first to admit that this kind of liquid meal
is not what most normal people who can eat regular food, shoudl be eating.
