Unfortunately whether or not it is a "good baby friendly hospital" has nothing to do with the supplementation. All hospitals have protocols. Most hospitals begin supplementation as soon as baby hits that 10% weight loss...you all know how it goes...the computer shows 10% in bright red and all the sudden everyone freaks out. 
No matter how much we fight, the formula is usually given to baby and mom is instructed to start a ridulous pumping routine. 
We know that the weight loss is probably iatrogenic...and it probably will be fine in the next 24 hours, but health care professionals don't want to take the chance.
