Brenda,

The non-healing wounds make me suspect it could be an antibiotic resistant staph and not thrush. We are seeing a growth of MRSA in our community. See Barbara Wilson-Clay's JHL article: J Hum Lact. 2008 Aug;24(3):326-9.Case report of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) mastitis with
abscess formation in a breastfeeding woman. It is wise that her milk and wound have been cultured. If it is MRSA or some variant, it is going to require heavier antibiotics.

I think it is Dr. Pamela Berens who routinely cultures moms if they have a second bout of mastitis or 'thrush.'

Please let us know the outcome.
