The manufacturers both say you are only supposed to use their kits on their
pumps. Whether this is scientifically based or just a way to sell their own
kits is not clear but I believe we need to follow the manufacturers
guidelines, as far as IBCLC ethics go. What would be interesting would be to
have someone test the kits with a vacuum gauge and see if they are pulling
the correct suction when put on the other brand pump. Vacuum gauges are
available for sale from the manufacturer, or you can make one yourself from
parts at the hardware store, and are what is used to test the suction on the
pump. Both manufacturers have limits or guidelines for what is supposed to
be appropriate suction on each of their machines.
