Interesting post from Kathy D on this.....

Also, Kathy, I wonder what you think of the theory that someone voiced to
me, that haemorrhagic disease is in some way  a marker for something else,
and nature actually *intends* these babies not to survive the newborn
period...nature, as we know, being a very callous and hard-hearted old
crone when it comes to individuals.

I must say I much prefer the theory that breastfeeding *physiologically* is
protective against HD...and that it's no wonder bf babies are more at risk
when they are actively prevented from feeding, as they are, all too often,
with routine practices on maternity units.
