Teresa,
I think this may well explain some of the in utero habits that we sometimes associate with breastfeeding difficulties. I, too, sometimes see them, but have come to consider such as habits as possible reactions to stress. The fetus is a highly sensitive being, completely aware and attuned to the mother's experiences. I have to wonder just how much a mother's fears and other negative emotions, as well as her stresses, combined with typical poor nutrition in the US impacts infant habits. We tend to so easily forget that we are dealing with complex beings within a complex eco-system and we, as a culture, want so much to believe it all matters very little. I think it all matters very much.
