<< Baby was mellow
and satisfied and had "slept through the night." I was alarmed because
baby is 5 days old. I asked for details and this is what they were.

Baby is sleeping with her parents and last night everytime she
stirred, mom
put her to breast and immediately went back to sleep and baby suckled a
while and went to sleep on the breast. That was "sleeping through the
  night. Isn't that lovely?! >>

Yes it is...it is lovely that she could see it as such. I must say
though, that I *hate* this term "sleeping through the night"...because
both my daughter and I basically "sleep through the night" (since when
do adults count the number of trips they make to the bathroom or get up
for a glass of water anyhow? I do less than that most nights, by 1/2
waking in order to latch her on). Sandrine does not wake up at night,
and has not done so since she was 3 weeks old...but she *does* nurse
several times at night. If I *didn't* nurse her at night, she'd likely
wake eventually from an empty tummy and *then* we would not sleep
through, as she'd perhaps want to play after having been fed, etc.

When people ask if she sleeps through, I stress that yes, she SLEEPS
through the night, but that she also nurses at night, and that it
bothers me less to 1/2 wake for that 6 times at night than it does to
get up and go to the bathroom (which happens on the odd occasion too,
but not every night).

I just wish everyone could see that sleeping through the night means
getting sleep...not "not getting fed". ;-)

Fio.
