Pat, I was thinking the same thing.  I also continue to wonder what good an
entire ounce of formula does when they inevitably throw up most, if not all
of it.  How they expect a 30 minute old newborn to take down an ounce is
beyond me.  Some babies can, but most will not.  I wonder if they are
forcing feeding tubes down these little ones.  At my hospital, the rules are
not quite as stringent (not EVERY baby gets a stick, but the ones with risk
factors do).  However, I have seen an awful lot of feeding tubes going down
babies who simply cannot eat as much as the docs want.  It doesn't stop them
from throwing up, but I think they can at least document that they put
something DOWN.  Shaking my head.

I second your better suggestion.  How about pushing a campaign to get EVERY
baby to the breast immediately after birth (where possible)?  Again...
scratching my head.
