Re criticism of incompetent professionals and cringing.  I see no reason why
anyone would "cringe" when reading about the incompetence of others.  I hear
horror stories about other college professors from my students, and I see
awful depictions of college professors on TV (all the professors on
"Felicity" seem to be complete assholes/jerks).  But it doesn't make me
cringe -- because I know that I am capable, and competent, and
compassionate.  As long as we don't say "All pediatricians are incompetent
fools..." I don't see what the problem is.  Everyone who has participated on
LactNet for any length of time knows in what high esteem non-MD Lactnetters
hold MDs who are knowledgeable about and supportive of breastfeeding, both
those on LactNet such as Dr. Jack and "Baby" Rob, and those not on LactNet,
but whom we know in our communities and workplaces.
