Hi Joyce,
Interesting anecdote of pineapple preventing engorgement 3rd time. Of
course, moms learn about minimizing engorgement and are quicker to feed more
often in the first few days.
Fresh pineapple contains the plant proteolytic enzyme bromelain. Canned
pineapple has had the bromelain destroyed in processing. But drinking tons
of canned pineapple juice could still be beneficial as the pineapple fruit
contains more than bromelain.

Pineapple, being yellow, contains flavonoids. These are constituents that
act as plant pigments, named after the color yellow, flavus. There are 2000+
types, making fruits and vegetables look appealing: yellow, red and purple
to our eyes. As a class, flavonoids are anti-inflammatory, inhibiting many
of the body's enzymes whose actions lead to the nasty effects of
inflammation secondary to fluid stasis.

Improving capillary connective tissue fragility is a specific and
long-evidenced therapeutic action of flavonoids (thus reducing edema
associated with stasis).

Perhaps tons of other beneficial fruits and vegetables would also help with
breast inflammation, edema and pain with fluid/milk stasis.

Does anyone have engorgement or mastitis stories or studies with other food
plants?
Cheers,
Sheila
