Dear Margaret, this isn't research but,

Who pays for this free formula??? I ask people that when they are spouting
off to me about the virtues of it.

Parents pay later on when they are buying formula, bottles, nipples, special
water, etc. Formula companies are out to make a profit -- they do not give
the gift packs out to be nice -- it costs them big bucks that they EXPECT to
bring in mucho dinero later on.

All these free samples drive up the cost to parents who are using formula.
At about $150 a month to feed formula, this isn't a bargain!

We no longer allow cigarette samples to be given out. Not much different
between these two types of free samples. Both hook in users, which is the
purpose. Otherwise the companies wouldn't give away product.

Plus, think of this: how do you know this mother really didn't get her free
samples when in the hospital? Maybe she just came back to get more free
stuff. It happens, not everyone is honest.

Something to think about. Kathy Eng, BSW, IBCLC
