The news articles about this study are even mentioning that cesareans
often lead to delayed establishment of breastfeeding, which may in
turn affect neonatal mortality.

Abstract:
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1523-536X.2006.00102.x

News articles about it:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/05/health/05birt.html
http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/health_medical/article1369593.ece
among others.

The threefold greater mortality looks like a robust finding -- very
large sample size and apparently good control of the variables.
