How about feeding is like a plumbing system. The baby feeding at the
breast is what turns on the tap. We all have different type of plumbing
and for some people the milk may splutter out slowly to begin with and for
others it may gush out, almost faster than we want it. In time as you and
the baby get used to how it works you will learn how to turn the tap on
just as you want it or how to handle the type of plumbing you have. If the
baby isn't positioned on properly its like he is trying to turn on the tap
with a pair of boxing gloves - the tap may turn a little, just enough to
get a little out but its a long, hard job to get enough out to satisfy him.
There's always milk there, just as there is always water when you turn on
the tap and although what is in the storage tank may be used, there is
always more available from the mains. You are the well from which your baby
drinks and to keep your supply of drinkable quality you have to think about
what you are putting into that well.
