Nikki,
You could be talking about the hospital where I work. We take babies to the
nursery in a heated crib(hopefully following breastfeeding), Mom goes to
her postpartum room in a wheelchair (At least not a stretcher as was the
policy 15 years ago-give or take five years), no babies are to be carried in
the hall (are policy to recognize a baby being abducted), baby discharged
after being placed in a car seat and taken to the hospital exit in a
wheelchair while Mom walks. I see parents and grandparents carrying babies
in car carriers about three feet from their bodies ( the strain on the arms,
back, and body in general is immense). What kind of good body mechanics are
these people using??
I think as a society we forgot that we need closeness. Babies need
closeness, not always lying in a crib, bassinett, or sitting in a carseat,
swing, etc.
