There is no set caloric intake needed for any *circumstance,* be it a twin pregnancy or breastfeeding twins. Every woman's metabolism is different, as are her activities, and these will be the primary determinents for her caloric needs. If your client is gaining weight, she needs to eat less or exercise more. Eating fewer high fat foods, and more what I like to call "real foods" (fruits, vegetables, grains, etc.) would be my advice to her. I always tell my clients to eat to appetite using primarily "real foods" and if they need more or less, we adjust on what we see happening. It's often when we try to mess with the internal "appestat" (as in telling someone they have to eat a certain amount of calories) that we run into problems. She needs to eat enough to support breastfeeding twins and meet her own nutritional needs, and while that may mean 3000 calories for some women, it evidently is not necessary for her :)
