Hi,
I do have permission to post and thought I would see if anyone has any
other ideas for a Mom I have been working with.
She is nursing a 3-month-old baby. This is her 3rd child and she nursed the
others with out any problems except one bout of mastitis with each. About
one month ago she developed a sore breast because of a bleb on her nipple.
She did all the conservative measures-warm moist heat, massage, frequent
nursings etc. Eventually her OB opened it with a needle and even cannulated
the duct. The bleb is no longer visible but the breast pain remains. She
also had a negative breast ultrasound and mammogram today. She has a sharp
stabbing pain deep in her breast. The pain can be so severe that it doubles
her over. It usually occurs after or between feedings. Interestingly, if
she puts the baby back to the breast it lessens the pain. She has had no
fever, inflammation or other symptoms of mastitis. She has been taking
fairly big doses of Ibuprofen that has not helped very much, but should
have helped if it is a Costochondritis (one of the ideas in the archives
for unilateral breast pain). I also relayed to her the possibility of
referred pain from muscle, pinched nerve etc.
