I too had the same initial reaction to the Breastfeeding and baby feeding
advice and information on their website. I could not sleep the first night I
read it! I know the local Westin Price group leader and I am involved in the
raw milk movement locally, so I had to deal with it for my own sanity.

It is obvious that Sally Fallon unfortunately had terrible breastfeeding
experiences. That of course, influences her and therefore the Price
foundation's teachings on that. In my opinion they should keep their noses
out of breastfeeding or should keep up-to-date with information. I think for
some women diet CAN affect their supply and if everything else has been
looked at and there are no other answers, then it may be a true dietary
concern. But their bashing of LLL and lack of bf knowledge is sad and
innapropriate for an organization that claims to be so concerned with
nutrition. They are also using old info in those pages. That is
irresponsible for such an organization.I would NEVER EVER send a mother to
their site for information on feeding babies. I've been told Sally is open
to new information and would be open to learning more about this area. I
hope and pray someone within the organization will take them to task on the
breastfeeding issue. I am not actually a member or involved with it, nor do
I have the time to take on the issue currently.

There have also been vegans and vegetarians who do not value human milk and
would instead give their children soy formula or some strange concotion. It
goes both ways.

On the other hand, I personally think that some of their information is
correct and worth paying attention to. I think those in all nutritional
camps would agree on organic, natural state, raw foods are best. For several
years people have quietly been talking about the possibility that margerine
and processed vegetable oils might not be good for us. Rediscovering animal
fats and olive and coconut oils may be the way to go nutritionally and many
are already starting to say as such. I was a vegetarian and dairy free for
many many years and bought everything the "health industry" had to say. I
was way unbalanced and eating too much soy, sugars and carbs. Too much of a
good thing isn't always good, ya know?

Now I am starting to come back to a sense of balance and common sense. Both
camps get so dogmatic that they refuse to dialog about the things they have
in common. Having now lived in both worlds, there are many many principles
that could be agreed upon.

Animals should not have antibiotics and hormones and should eat grass and
bugs. Grains should be properly prepared. Corn syrup and hydrogenated oils
will kill you. Fermentation is good and vegetables are essential. Fruit is
the original desert food. Sugar should be a rare treat. Pesticides and
environmental polutants are bad. These are all things that the WAP
foundation espouses yet for me, I almost missed it because I was SO strongly
opposed to their breastfeeding info. I still am, don't get me wrong. But I
treat it like a LLL meeting and take what works for me and my family and
leave the rest. Now I am forming my own natural foods preferred type
philosophy and it is an interesting and difficult journey.

Bottom line, the breastfeeding information is horrible but I have hope will
someday be changed by someone who lovingly, intellegently and patiently
dialogs with them and helps them.

That's my take, for what it's worth.
Micky
