I've been putting together a display on use and abuse of pacifiers and
my mind starting thinking of all the problems pacifiers can cause....
low weight gain, early termination of breastfeeding, ear infections,
decreased care giver contact...and one more possible problem...
Pacifier use has increased dramatically in the last 20 plus years...
could there be some correlation with the rise in childhood obesity and
pacifier abuse. It makes sense that if a child constantly learns that
every time he cries from a multitude of things he gets "calmed" pacified
with some oral gratification it could lead to a life time of seeking
oral gratification? Has anyone ever seen any literature on this... it
would be a fascinating line of research. Can you give me more ideas on
pacifier abuse... or the history of pacifiers?
