This weekend I conducted an interview with a student who is interested in getting up to speed on all aspects of beekeeping. She had a series of prepared questions. Near the end of the interview she asked me why I keep bees; was it for pollination, honey production, etc.?

I told her I don't keep bees to sell honey, I sell honey to be able to keep bees. My main motivation is that I want to be part of the honey bees' lives., which means being aware of the weather, the flora, everything that they are aware of.

Nobody who keeps bees can be oblivious to the weather, which is just the local aspect of the climate. So neither can we be oblivious to the climate, and how it affects all of us. Remember the butterfly effect: a small change somewhere can create big changes elsewhere.
