That's my view. That's what I would want to see tested. What is more I 
don't think it would be too difficult to disentangle economics from 
ecology. I bet there is plenty of data about the economics, and that the 
magnitude of the effects would be greater than the subtle, incremental 
influence of soil chemistry for example.

50 years of honey yields might produce something interesting, but I 
guess the problem is, ecologists don't study economics, and economists, 
if they study anything at all, don't study ecology.
