Memristors are "metal-insulator-metal". That's a semiconductor.
It "remembers" its last resistance value (set by the amount of current run through it) and as it changes its resistance with additional current run through it, it is a "dynamic" resistor.
No one really needs a "dynamic resistor", so it is used as a new form of memory, as it is fast.
