"I need some help with a new mom of 4 day old quads! She was put on
Flexoril
on day 3 for c/o sore back. After 2 doses, she was told she could not give
EBS to the babies due to the Flexoril. Told to pump and dump for 72 hours.
Dr. Hales book says it has not been reviewed and does have a AHL of 24-72
hrs.
The babies are each approx. 1lb. 6oz.
Mom stopped after 2 doses. Still pumping and saving. Not giving to babies
until further word. Babies are doing well. No vent. Taking 1cc formula
q
3 hrs.
Do I need to tell her to dump???
Thank you.

Loretta Haycook, RN, IBCLC

Loretta,
I think a mom in this situation should start by questioning the efficacy of
Flexeril ((cyclobenzaprine)..
I remember correctly the effect of the drug is on the CNS not the muscle.
Tom or Frank please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Rob
