Sounds like a high cervical nerve compression to me, near the top of the
spinal column. What position(s) does the mother typically nurse in? Is
the baby supported so well by pillows etc. that mom's arms don't have a
heavy weight to support. Is it the position in which she perhaps "cranes"
her neck to look down at the breast? Is there compression of the
neck/shoulder junction by too tight bra straps supporting a heavy breast?
Besides better support of the baby and/or different positions such as
lying down, nursing without a bra and not craning the neck to see if the
problem is still present, if it were my neck, I would go to my trusty
chiropractor!
