Hello,
I deliver babies in a very small rural hospital in Missouri. We are
breastfeeding friendly and hopefully will be working toward officially Baby
Friendly soon. We do not have epidurals available, but some mothers (not
many) opt for a one shot narcotic only spinal. We work with our patients
toward "natural deliveries" and have definitely recognized a significant
benefit with breastfeeding.
I am putting together an inservice for our nursing staff on
non-pharmacologic methods for labor pain control. We are already familiar
with breathing techniques and I have contacted a reflexologist and a massage
therapist to come and demonstrate some techniques. My town is small and
rather isolated, so I don't have
access to many resources. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you for your wise assistance (and the future laboring moms thank you
too!)
Please respond by post or private email ([log in to unmask]) whichever is
more appropriate.
