Hi all. I'd like a little help with a situation please. I am assisting a
mother ..first time mother. Baby is 4 weeks old, but at term, adjusted age.
Born at 36 weeks gest. 5 lb 2 oz at low point. Latched and fed once in
hospital. Mother went on to receive a variety of help, ended up switching
from finger feeding to bottlefeeding expressed milk. Mother's supply ok.
We worked on latching baby onto bare breast, no go. Then we tried a nipple
shield. Latched, then gets off and immed. screams. Then put SNS with EBM
under shield. Still not much luck. Then a periodontal syringe with EBM at
shielded breast...this worked, though baby got on and off a lot. She did
latch and suck.
Without fast flow, this baby goes from 0 to 80 in less than 3 seconds. No
patience whatsoever.
Suggestions?
