I would appreciate some advice / info from anyone on the following
subjects. A mother visited me antenatally today because of a very poor
breast feeding history last baby (when she ended up bottle feeding after
9 days of unsuccessful attachment and extreme stress). She really wants
to breast feed this time so came to me for any helpful hints I can give
her for next time. One of her issues was that her breasts were very
oedematous which ? seemed to interfere with her initial milk
production. The oedema developed antenatally as it has this time as
well. She is now 25 weeks pregnant and to examine her breasts now they
feel like breasts that are filling with milk - only on the underside of
the breasts. After taking her bras off and lying down all night, the
oedema is gone in the morning and the breasts are soft. She has no
oedema anywhere else in her body and has very large breasts. Has anyone
else seen this phenomenon ? Will this cause a problem with milk
production ? (? could the oedema present cause damage to the breast
tissue).

Second issue - a mum asked me whether an allergic response could be
elicited (either immediately as an intolerance or later due to
sensitisation - ? correct terminology) in her baby through the breast
milk) by the mum eating satay sauce. There is a very strong family
history of allergies to shellfish and peanuts. The (Australian) mum is
married to an Asian man and Satay Sauce is eaten very frequently in
their household. She is not sure whether to continue eating it herself
or not.
I would appreciate emails sent to me personally as I am currently
no-mail.
Thanks to anyone who has info for me.
