Sorry, just dropping in and out, but I have to put this on the list. Does
anyone know an email address for Debrett's?

Did you see that Debrett's have pronounced that "It is bad manners to expel
any liquid from any orifice in public, and breastfeeding is no different.
Well-mannered mothers should breastfeed in private. Many onlookers find the
sight embarassing, even revolting."
Debrett's New Guide to Etiquette and Modern Manners, by John Morgan.
Quoted in Herald Sun, Melbourne 23/8/99

To which one might reply:
"It is bad manners for any author to expel any absolute codswallop* or
offensive gases from any orifice at any time, and John Morgan is no
different. Well-mannered authors should express their peculiar personal
hang-ups in private, between consenting adults or sympathetic psychiatrists
who understand the damage done to fragile psyches by certain styles of
child-rearing. Many readers and listeners find the idea of an English male
telling them what to do with their bodies and their children embarrassing,
even revolting, and certainly peculiarly risible."
How about some very offensive public breastfeeding on Debrett's doorstep
till they apologise?
