An empty bladder also helps.  Ibuprofen, IMO seems to be the best for
afterpains, if you are wanting to avoid narcotics.  600-800mg of Ibprofen
3-4 times a day (not to exceed 300mg/24 hr).  It seemed to get worse with
each baby I had but I agree with the above poster, nursing a healthy baby
is well worth the temporary discomfort.
