My initial reaction to this kind of scenario (stuffy nose, head banging or
swatting) is to question could this baby have such sinus congestion/teething
pain that it hurts to suck? Could sucking cause too much internal pressure
and then the baby bites down in response? I know babies will choose breathing
over continued feeding. This child could be getting frantic in attempts to
nurse that are very uncomfortable (ever have a sinus headache?) Chamomille is
useful for calming a fretful teething baby. Sometimes it can be difficult to
end sinus congestion, especially allergy related without resorting to drugs
(ie sudafed) It never ceases to amaze me how often the reason can be
something simple and readily treatable. Unfortunately, this kind of situation
is typical of what instigates a nursing strike. Good luck in determining the
cause and resolving!
