Forgive me if this has already been said....I've been backed up on the
digests.  It was mentioned around here that the depo is given before mom
leaves the hospital (the lower income, med assistance applies here as
well) because the mom's partner may not wait until the recommended six
weeks to have intercourse and the situation may be one in that the mom
can't refuse.....so the doc feels it's better to do the shot early to
prevent another pregnancy.  It's sad that it's come to that.
