I am an Air Force reservist and I am thinking of applying for the Prince of
Wales Award which allows the member selected to spend 2 weeks in the USA,
Canada or UK persuing an activity which will have benefit for the
Australian Defence Force and 2 weeks in one of those countries doing a
project which would have benefits for the members Civilian job. As I am the
only Doctor in the Australian Reserve Forces with the IBCLC [ I think! ]
and because I work for the Air force as a Civilian General Practitioner as
well, I was thinking that I might be able to suggest a
breastfeeding project. The Australian military has fairly generous
Maternity leave and access to leave without pay but serving members who
return to work still have difficulties with deployment committments and
pumping and storage etc, etc, etc if they wish to continue feeding for any
length of time.
I was hoping that in one of the above listed countries that there might be
someone with experience in implementing a breastfeeding program to military
women who could help me plan a project. I would appreciate any ideas at all
including names of people to contact. Australia does not supply medical
treatment for dependents of military members but my focus would be on
female personnel who wish to work and breastfeed.
please e-mail me privately
