I seem to have missed the majority of this thread, but I wanted to add my
$0.02 here. In the past 4 months I have known of two cases of infant
botulism. Each of
the mothers had their babies successfully treated at Children's Hospital of
Philadelphia.

What surprised me was that each of the mothers separately told me that the
botulism was airborne. (Both also live near new construction out in the
country.)

Both of the mothers were breastfeeding exclusively, and one mom said that
she was told that the breastfed babies were more prone to this. (Perhaps
she misunderstood?)

By the time each of the moms returned their rental pumps, they were pretty
exhaused from the ordeal - so some of the information they gave me may not
have been entirely accurate.

I am sure that Rachelle Lesson, the Lactation Consultant at CHOP, can shed
more light on this.
