We have a mother who gave birth to triplets on 10/30/98 at 35 weeks
geestation!!! 2 girls and one boy weighing in at 5lbs 2oz, 4lbs 7 oz, and
4 lbs 9oz. Mom is determined to breastfeed them. I have been lucking in
finding lots iof information for her. Now for the problem. The babies are
having various problems with temp and blood sugar and they are still in the
NICU. Moms milk came in on 11/3 and she ran a fever of 101.2 that evening.
No temp today (11/4/98) but the neonatologists will not give babies the
milk she has pumped since then. They say she has to be without a fever X
24 hours. We have supplied the docs with studies that it is OK for babies
to get the milk but they still refuse. Mom is frustrated, we are
frustrated and the HCP are frustrated with us. I would appreciate any
input from you guys as to how your NICU's handle this.

Thanks,
Debra Knight, R.N., ICCE
