I need your collective wisdom - I am experiencing a string of
difficult cases: here's the latest.......
9 week old boy, 7# 14 oz at birth, lost more weight than the
pediatrician could tolerate, so was supplemented with ABM. I
don't think the baby was latching correctly (I did not see baby
until a week ago!).
After about 2 days of supplementing, baby started refusing
breast - screaming, arching, clamping lips closed whenever he
was put near nipple. Mom started pumping and giving EBM in
bottle.
I saw baby last week, offered SNS (he just cried and let milk
spill everywhere!) - nipple shield (no way would he take that!).
Mom continues to pump, is taking Fenugreek but her supply is
decreasing. She is getting discouraged (he won't even latch
when he is full just to pacify).
Today, I suggested re-birthing bath (which we will try
tomorrow) - but I wondered if I missed anything.
HELP - I am feeling under-qualified after 25 years in this
business!!
