I'm not sure I qualify as one of the lactation Wise-Ones, but this one
is up my line of work. My guess is that the providers are paronoid about
the slightly less effectiveness (97 vs 99%) of the minipill(progestin
only) vs the combined oral contraceptives. They are wanting the women to
switch over the the combined OCPs at this time to make sure they don't
get pregnant.

I usually tell my patients about the effectiveness rates and the chance
of decreased milk with combined OCPs and let them decide. I really don't
want them switching over. Most of our group asks them to switch when
they wean.
