Dear Editors of GreatLife,

As a womens health educator who also "practices what she preaches", I've
obtained your magazine regularly from my favorite health food store. Many
times I've found valuable information to pass along to attendees in my
community health-oriented classes.

I was, therefore, dismayed to see your article on page 10 about prenatal
calcium needs. The article itself was quite helpful; the illustration of a
baby BOTTLEFEEDING was totally inappropriate. Aside from the obvious fact
that the article is in regard to prenatal nutrition, the depiction of
bottlefeeding as the "normal" and "healthy" way to feed a baby is VERY wrong.

From a "natural" food perspective, there is no more perfect, natural food than
mother's milk. And, the HAZARDS of formula--from increased illness,
allergies, and diminished brain growth to errors in production and
distribution--are now well documented.

A picture of a developing fetus would actually have been more appropriate; if
you wanted to attract readers with a "cute" baby, however, this could easily
have been done with a breastfeeding baby or simply a baby in mother's arms.

Thank you for your overall excellent information on ways to improve health
without the help of pharmaceuticals. Please pay attention to the mixed
messages your illustrations might impart.

Sincerely,

Carol Schlef, RNC, MSW, IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation
Consultant)
